Cucumber is one of the most water-loving vegetable crops cultivated worldwide and is the 4th most important vegetable used for salad purposes. Water deficiency, especially at the seedling and early vegetative stages, results in severe consequences for plant health and yield loss. Therefore, it is crucial to establish strategies to protect this crop from extreme water stress. Breeding drought-tolerant lines is one of the most commonly used strategies. Developing drought-tolerant lines with improved yield is essential in cucumber.

Drought tolerance is a complex trait that depends on various environmental and physiological factors. Throughout evolution, plants have acquired the ability to modify their morphological, physiological, biochemical, and metabolic responses at both organ and cellular levels to overcome drought severity. A cross-talk among the physio-chemical responses and molecular networks determines stress response in any crop plant. Understanding the molecular networks and identifying differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in response to drought stress tolerance is key to developing genomic resources for breeding drought tolerance.

This database contains the results of protein-coding and lncRNA gene expression analysis from two contrasting cucumber cultivars: DG-59, which is drought-susceptible, and WBC-23-2, which is drought-tolerant.
